About

When I was eleven years old, I wrote a standardized intelligence test.  Based on the results of this test, it was determined that I could attend a gifted program with other children who had similar scores.  Until recently, that was all the label ‘gifted’ meant to me. Maybe it also meant, that I thought a little faster and a little differently than most people.  But that was all.

Twenty-seven years later, feeling unchallenged and unhappy in my job, I asked myself the question: where are the jobs that will challenge my mind? By accident, I came across information about gifted adults.  I learned, for the first time that giftedness is not just about how I think but also how I feel, how I understand the world.  That being gifted actually plays a significant part in defining who I am as a person.  Total epiphany.

As an adult, I spend a significant amount of my time working…the grown up equivalent of being in school.  As a child, my board of education determined that I would be better served in a particular educational environment.  But there is no ‘Board of Work’ to assist me and I have yet to find the answer to the question: what kind of work environment is best suited to a gifted adult?  No doubt there are many answers to that question but what characteristics do these jobs/work environments have in common?

www.gifteduniverse.com  is a platform to explore these questions: what does it mean to be a gifted adult?  And how does being a gifted adult affect our work lives?  It’s my intention to provide information, build a forum that encourages discussion around these questions; creates community.  I am also very interested in other people’s stories about their work experiences.  And really, I am hoping you’ll help me answer the question: what kind of work best suits a gifted adult?
