Most gifted adults who were identified as gifted children never received any such enlightenment about their characteristics as this blog (and a few other blogs, and a few books) now provide -- not thirty years ago, not twenty years ago, and in many schools even not in the past ten years and today. At least the Internet can now help more gifted people understand themselves, and help parents (and teachers) of gifted children understand them; if they end up realizing to look for this kind of information, sites like this one can help provide it.

The utter lack of understanding/appreciation of the gifted aspects of my nature has led to some horrendous experiences in my life, and I know I'm not the only gifted adult who's had to suffer such ordeals because this knowledge wasn't/isn't more widespread. Thank you for making this site, and thanks also to the other few bloggers/authors helping to share this information.

True enough, Admin, but you're about thirty years late... the "social-affective needs" approach to giftedness became predominant about 1982 in the Gifted field and, if anything, has swung to opposite extreme and now neglects the achievement of the gifted. (It's more politically-correct to help the gifted understand themselves today than to teach them to do things for themselves, too.) Most gifted people I know actively hide it to "pass" as normal because to be seen as gifted today means being seen as a weird, geeky "basket case" (a negative stereotype, most certainly) and anyone, not just the gifted, can do without that. This is real life being a gifted adult today, like it or not. "Just a lucky guy," as Bogart demurrs in Casablanca.
